Meet with Nelofer Pazira

This morning, Mizan invites me to join the talk show and meet and greet with Nelofer Pazira, the director and actress of the movie, "Return to Kandahar". It has the same time with the re-launching the book "The Kite Runner" Gold Edition by Mizan Publishing House. This talk show is held in Masjid Salman's field which also invites Iqbal Alfajri from Salman Films.

Nelofer is a Canadian-Afghanistan birth journalists and director, and she has the childhood live in Kabul, Afghanistan. She has a great memory with her father when she was a kid and she also experiencing her time with people and the actual condition in Afghanistan. Her inspiration of her movies and books are mostly describe about the live in Afghanistan. Comparing to other movies which describe about Afghanistan, her point of view about the country is considered adding more real values on the field, according to movie critics.

At the talk show, Nelover shares about her experiences about her movie making of "Return to Kandahar" and other of her projects. She said that in making the movie, she has to face a lot of challenges such as the budgeting, and the actual situation on the field. In gaining budget for the movie, she runs it more independently by inviting sponsors and ventures. Facing the actual situation, she has to deal with uncertainty of security in taking the scenes and the direction of the artists who are actual Afghan actors which are still dealing with insecurity of Afghanistan situation.

She shares that Afghanistan has suffered from a long period of war which has been occur for about 30 years. She describe the situation as "below zero" which has create insecurity for the life there. There are no Afghanistan citizen who their family hasn't been killed in a war. It creates the counter movement called "Taliban" who are filled with background of trauma. The children who live there has to deal with insecurity all the time.

She tells that Afghanistan, which ranked number 2 of the poorest country in the world, actually doesn't have any high value resources in the country, but the strategic geographical area which has the neighbor of Russia, Pakistan, and Iran, made greediness appeal to conquer the country. Many wars had been occur there and to revive the situation to peace, it has to take generations to past. The problems are not only came from the intervention of foreign countries, but also the greediness of Afghanistan citizens itself which often corrupt the donations from foreign countries.

The multidimensional problems occur and the love of the childhood country made Nelofer creates most of their journal and movie works about Afghanistan and most of her works are being appreciated very well by movie critics all over the world. She hope that her work could inspire people by learning from Afghanistan and hope that the situation would not happen again in other countries.

Biar bisa menarik perhatian penonton, personil band emang harus punya aksi beda dari yang lain.

Pengen belajar jadi band yang bisa menarik perhatian penonton? Datang aja ke SMAN 66 Jakarta. Soalnya di SMA ini, band-bandnya jago banget bikin aksi yang bikin penontonnya geleng-geleng kepala.

Contohnya pas HaiSkulizm digelar di SMA ini, Senin (3/5) lalu. Tiga band yang beraksi, tiga gaya unik pula yang mereka lakukan. Dimulai dari band Autumn Suicide. Dengan musik kerasnya, sang vokalis yang merangkap gitaris sampe harus jongkok dan hampir melakukan aksi kayang demi bisa tampil pol.

The Disaster juga nggak mau kalah. Walau musiknya nggak segahar band sebelumnya, vokalisnya tetap aja keliatan bergaya lebay. Sesekali ekskpresinya dibikin gahar. Bukan itu aja, vokalis The Disaster juga doyan deketin penonton dan ngajak mereka ikutan nyanyi.

Yang paling oke adalah The Southern Comfort. Nama dan musiknya emang nggak segahar dua band sebelumnya, tapi permainan gitar dari gitaris band ini mampu menyedot penonton makin mendekat ke panggung. Bahkan penonton sampe ngerubutin gitaris band ini!

One of the most waited album 2010 from Angels and Airwaves, LOVE, has release their firs single downloaded for free! It's titled Hallucination.

It has adapted more samplings than the previous album, and still with AVA's touch. It's more like mixed between Enter Shikari's loop, faded with old punk rock alternative basic beat, and AVA's touch. Tom is doing good vocal in this song and heard more natural than his vocal on I-Empire. AVA concept is still on their hand.

I just came back from Zep’s house to finish my tasks of SBM, and before that, I went to Beurgeur, on Tubagus Ismail 22nd. I think I met the owner of this tiny little burger house on side of Tubagus Ismail. I ordered 2 cheese burger, one to be eaten on the spot; the other is to take home for sahur. I was realized that I wear SBM ITB t-shirt, and I suddenly was greeted by a women on the Beurgeur. Here are the short conversation (using Indonesian ya..)

W: Anak SBM ya?”

I: Iya.

I: Saya baru pertama kali makan disini.

W: Ooh..

W: Baru masuk ya?

I: Nggak, sy udah tahun ke 3.

W: Ooh, bentar lagi lulus dong?

I: Iya, Insya Allah.

W: Mmm.. Kenapa milih masuk SBM? Pengen bikin bisnis juga?

I: Mmm, iya si mbak, mudah-mudahan. Soalnya orang tua gak ada yang latar belakangnya bisnis..

W: Klo udah lulus mau bisnis apa?

I: Mmm.. masih belum kepikiran si mbak.

W: Mau bisnis kuliner juga?

I: Mmm… ya, mungkin iya.

Small piece of Manado independent music scene

I just came back from Manado, North Sulawesi and I felt lucky to be able to see and experience piece of Manado music scene. I went to Marble Distro & Music Studio at Jl. Ahmad Yani no. 1 where I met Ichat, vox of The Almighty Human Cartoon. It sees that Manado has skateboard inspired music scene, close like scene in Jakarta & Bandung where the old skate park is made at Bahu Mall. Existed bands like Why Angry (Danger Ranger like punk band) and The Almighty Human Cartoon are two of melodic punk band that often plays in gigs at Manado. There are plenty of other bands with melodic hardcore influence are dominate in here and Bahu Mall is the place for them to perform.

Ichat said that Marble is a distro which support independent band the most, rather than the other “clothing like” distros. The most recent event held was “Distorsi Hari Ini!” which is fully organized by Marble. Hellostereo! was also been invited by them once. On the next month, Pee Wee Gaskins and Killing Me Inside will be invited to play at their place. They also have a music studio inside, almost the same like Riotic Distro in Bandung.

But something unusual when I came to Marble is, their own clothing line was empty. :) Stuffs sells at the distro’s are all Jakarta and Bandung clothing lines such as Crozz (Jakarta), Baby Zombie (Bandung), Endorse (Jakarta), ect. It’s so pity that I couldn’t buy something to take home unless The Almighty Human Cartoon second album “Stay tune with the Cartoon Melodic” CD for free. :) The CD that I saw sell was Netral “Hitam” (Jakara), Koil “Blacklight Shines On” (Bandung), Kuro “Ever Bevore” (Jakarta) and 7 Deadly Sins cassette (Jakarta). I asked Ichat, is there any other Manado independent band records in here, and he said it was all empty. But I was shown the mp3 collection on their PC, single of Why Angry which is close like Danger Ranger and Pee Wee Gaskins inspired band. I said to myself, how was that it came to Manado?

Apparently, when I check their mp3 collections, there are almost all Jakarta and Bandung independent bands. :) Says Blablablast!, Failing Forward, Killing Me Inside, Danger Ranger, Pee Wee Gaskins, etc. I also found some names like Enter Shikari and several hardcore metal international bands. I wonder how was all that bands are come to Manado? Actually, they are downloading it from the internet and media shares (typically Indonesian independent band habit…).

“Records are rare in here. Now everyone is just uploading to the internet.” said Ichat.

Ok, I thought it was only about the recording. When I came to Marble, I also heard a band was practicing at the studio. You know what they play? Vierra, Dengarkan Curhatku!... :O

Well, after a slight visit, I could tell that Manado independent music scene is still searching for their own character. In the other hand, Jakarta and Bandung scene, apparently, is very influential for them. It can be seen from clothing lines they ordered and their mp3 collections. Manado people are also very open for new music and very like to sing and perform. It can be seen on all over the Jl. Boulevard that almost all the restaurant has the “single organ” for karaoke. :)

Overall, Manado is a very potential city to be built a local independent music scene!

APRES @ Open House Unit (OHU) ITB 2009! (Finally!...)

Fiuh, after all the effort from APRES kids for this whole week, finally we went through this OHU uniquely! ;)

Pre event (15 August 2009)

TB plays the keyboard, Dito hold the mic, and everyone fill it up!

We did some kind of pre event which actually didn't being planned at all. It should be for Mustang OHU sound check that Music Division organize for the band. But it went out TB and Dito, and the rest of APRES kids, warming up the condition by playing hits that could be sing along together!

After the check sound finished at about 1.30 AM, I decided to stay at the stand until tomorrow morning to make sure that no items are gone. I stayed there with Aul, Rishad & TB.

The parade (16 August 2009, 9 AM)

We got one of the most crowd! :)

OHU is started by a parade from each unit in ITB. We got lined up from the Indonesia Tenggelam basin to the front of Soekarno monument where the main stage took place. Apparently we got one of the most crowd over there! It also supported by STOMPRESS who are playing beside us as the opening performance.

Mustang OHU!

Music Division decided to create a Mustang (Musik Petang) at our stand, so it would pursue people to visit our stand, especially 2009 kids to join us. But not only 2009, we also open for any ITB undergraduate student to be our member, but should follow JVV first. What is JVV? Registration first. :) The registration table are also available beside our stand. The first meeting will be held Wednesday, August 19th 2009 @ Sekre APRES.

The main stage and collaboration

Beside the stand and Mustang OHU, we also performed in the main stage of OHU at 3.30 PM. We delegate 2 bands that plays Mbah Surip - Tak Gendong and Michael Jackson - Beat It. That was quite catching a lot of attention from the crowds, especially from LFM (Liga Film Mahasiswa) crowds who seems support us so much! Thx dude!

We also delegate or member for the closing performance collaboration with other units. It went at 6.30 PM and straightly closed the OHU after each of every unit delegation performed "Salam Ganesha" around the Indonesia Tenggelam basin which was lead by President of KM (Keluarga Mahasiswa) ITB, Yusuf.

Thx, for all OHU commitee! We had so much fun in OHU!
APRES! Be prepare for JVV!

PS: The day after OHU, I was sick badly. My body was trembling and I had diarrhea. I think it's because I was staying and guarding the stand all night long without proper eating, plus being the MC at Mustang OHU on the next day. Well, this was an experience. :)

Creatifest 09 Prasetya Mulya: 2nd winner!

Finally, after not more than 3 days of practice, with all the tight schedule, I, with other SBM-ITB friends made to achieve the 2nd winner of Creatifest 09 Indonesian Progressive Ethnic Music Competition! We perform our own song "Dewata Puja", compete with other competitors from Bina Nusantara University, University of Indonesia, Pelita Harapan University, Jakarta Public University, and the home team Prasetya Mulya University.

We standby from the time when the event started until the end to catch the final result of the competition. So our existence seems very appealing at that time. ;) Well, Prasetya Mulya as the organizer of this event was also creating stands to sell their home made product. Like when SBM-ITB doing IBE, they also selling unique and very creative with the same theme of Indonesian ethnicity.

Success to all people who made and support this event, especially Prasetya Mulya! Keep contact with SBM-ITB! :)

Rocket Rockers is proving to be a savior in Indonesian music industry!

Of course, man!

Well, at least after we saw their new video “Hari Untukmu”, we could appreciate them as a positive Indonesian pop punk band to influence may others to follow their way. The video is reminding me a bit of Blink-182’s “Adam Song” video clip, which makes a nostalgic for me, yet, nice adaptation. The main point of the concept of the video is that the band is trying to give their kindness to the people around them, start from something small such as helping a down tool old Vespa, or sharing an ice cream to a kid.

"Hariku, harimu, takkan pernah ditelan waktu!"

Their path to 10 years of their career will also be celebrated in a “Hari Untukmu Concert” in 15 August 2009 at GSG Itenas. It shows that they have a pretty good consistency as a band, proven to have influence the growing up of independent music scene and bands in Bandung and Indonesia. They could be used as a good role model too, and it’s proven to the existence of a band such as Pee Wee Gaskins.

I hope they could always do their best and keep their musical characteristic. Good luck RORO!

I’ve just met with people from Jazz Goes to Campus (JGTC) 32nd, and they want to corporate with APERS ITB and IT Jazz to make the pre event in ITB. We had such a nice conversation with them, and I hope this will be one way to widen the networking of APRES ITB UI.

For JGTC!

What I amaze is Tesla from IT Jazz is very passionate to give his argument to JGTC. He share the misunderstanding of the note “Jazzier than ever” that means that it’s a pop event that’s “jazzier”, not actually a Jazz event. It should be “Jazzer than ever”. Stuffs like that. He also shares a lot about Bandung jazz communities that actually have deeper meaning of just ordinary jazz. He said that jazz fans in Bandung are more critical and better love the type of jazz that more educative, and not just a pop Jazz.

From this condition that IT Jazz has a good corporation with JGTC, I believe that IT Jazz as a new music unit in ITB could develop to be a huge jazz unit in the future. I hope that APRES ITB could always create good and strong relation with them. Good luck IT Jazz!

Very nice movie! Kambing Jantan!

Well I saw the picture of a boy who are turning to be a man, and finding himself in this romantic piece of story. Raditya Dika is one of the best writers that I admire. His first blog are really revolutionary in Indonesian literary scene. He turns his life into a comedy piece of story that would make people laugh and amused. Honest, yet, expressive. No wonder that Rudi Soedjarwo is very sure to turn the novel into a movie.

What we can learn

I can learn how to be honest. In writing, actually the honesty and life experience will influence most, and we have to accept that. In the other hand, it also makes me feel better and relieve. It also increases our blessing to Allah SWT.
I also see the honest love story of Raditya Dika with Kebo in this movie and being truthful to be shown in the movie. Although in the end they were not mean to be, but it shows us a nice drama story. It makes us can learn something. Very nice exercise for LDR (Long Distance Relationship)! :)

The best scene

Every conversation between Radit and Kebo is my favorite scenes because I could “feel” the situation and condition of it, especially the scene in the park when Kebo asked Radit “Ada cewek lain?”. Kebo shows that she’s a strong woman to Radit, and Radit replies with unique and truthful answer. That’s a very rare condition, today! And then, when Radit went back from Adelaide to Kebo’s dorm to apology. That’s a very nice scene!

The word that I can describe is: “So sweet!”

Talk more, do more.

:) saya ucapkan selamaat dan sukses buat anda yah, sblm memulai segala sesuatunya dalam kepengurusan, ada bbrp hal yang ingin saya tekankan :

1. selalu mulai dari visi dan misi, jangan pernah dilupain. pada saat hal - hal ngga terduga kejadian, balik lagi ke visi dan misi lo. slalu ingetin bp2 lo ttg itu, dan jangan pernah takut untuk ngejar smua itu, krn visi dan misi lo udah disetujui oleh smua anggota apres, lo punya wewenang untuk ngejalanin semuanya dengan cara lo.

2. terkait dengan hal diatas, gimana mekanismenya? ada satu hal vital yg harus lo inget2, yaitu komunikasi! dari dulu komunikasi ini selalu jadi masalah di apres, gw soroti antar pengurus-anggota yah. harus ada birokrasi demokratis tertulis yang nentuin mekanisme, peranan anggota menurut klasifikasinya kalo ada, dan juga jangan lupa, kode etik dan norma - normanya. hal ini belom sempet dibenahin sampe kepengurusan kemaren, kalo ampe ada yg perlu disoroti menurut gw ya ttg hal ini.

3. ada banyak hal yang perlu lo pelajari dan baru akan lo tau stlh lo jadi ketua, jadi banyak - banyaklah bertanya! jgn berharap pihak - pihak tertentu datengin lo duluan untuk ngasih wejangan atau bahkan sampe mengeluh. sebagai ketua lo harus peka. ini smua insya Allah bsa dipelajari.

4. saat membuat kegiatan, inget, kita ni kuliah di itb. jgn sampe sesuatu yg ada di apres bener - bener menyita perhatian anggota sampe lupa sama akademisnya.

mungkin segitu dulu intronya haha. apa yg saya ucapkan ini berdasarkan keanggotaan saya semenjak 2005 di apres dan pengalaman pribadi saya dulu :p

selamat dan sukses untung bung yoyo! gw suka apres sekarang, ramai dan menyenangkan. keep it up! :D

I (finally) realized myself that I'm actually a loner.

I'm overly self-conscious and believe that people are constantly comment and sizing my attribute (Wikipedia). I have to change this from now. In business, loner is the first point to be unsuccessful. That's why silaturahim is very important to gain relationships between people.

I spend most of my free time in my boarding room, without interact with my neighbors. I'm the youngest in the boarding house and I'm the only person who is majoring in SBM-ITB. So, I have nothing in common in interacting with my neighbors who are all older than me and has different major. Maybe this is the reason why I start to be such a loner in this house.

Searching the lost spirit

After doing Shalat Isya and intense praying, I started to bless Allah SWT for the guidance and the way to reach this recognition of myself. I thank that I actually realize that I'm actually a loner, so I have to change it from now.

I'm commit that I don't want to be a loner anymore. I want to be a good person within the neighbor (home, SBM-ITB, Apres! & all), be tolerance, and have nice relationship with them.

This is the first time ever, I didn't make to sell all of the sandwich. There is a final result of 5 wheat bread sandwiches & 2 white bread sandwiches left. Thankfully that the result is BEP, so we didn't occur any deficit.

The genesis

Well, this sandwich business has been done for several weeks and almost a month with my friend Yayi, Architecture 2005 also known as the vocalist of band Baby Eats Crackers. She started the idea to start selling sandwich to fulfil her wondered Java Jazz Festival 2009 ticket. Later on, she started to consult and share about the business with the others. One day, she went to APRES and shared her business with me, knowing that I'm an SBM ITB student.

Seeing an opportunity that apparently, SBM ITB students are often have difficulties and laziness to find proper food around the school/faculty, I decided to helped her to distribute her sandwich to SBM ITB, with developed quality and taste.

I have onced have the same mind to create a sandwich business, but apparently, I had no time to do this all by myself. So, this collaboration made more efficient task to both of us. Ai (Yayi's nick name) is making and developing the sandwich every early morning, and I distribute the sandwich to SBM ITB and do the calculation and accounting.

Back to today

Well, in the end, I ate the sandwich by myself, eaten by Ai and her boyfriend and shared it to my boarding house neighbours. Just keep positive in mind! Tomorrow must be better because:

Life is learning and learning is praying.

Subhanallah, walhamdulillah, wa laailaaha ilallah, I trully got an energy to stand up by great memories of my high school. I just look up my photographs of my high school life. :)

I was amazed that my highschool life was trully colorful and focus. It's colourful because here, I could find many different kinds of people from many backgrounds and it combined in every day activities in class. It also focus because, although there are many different kinds of people, our school was not ranked pretty good at that time. So, seems like each elements of the school was be focus to develop the school together to reach better achievement. Thats one big point!

Despite my era of excitement of exploring independent music, I learned a lot how to be focus in every activities in school. When other top highschool students was focused on being celebrities, my highschool was focused on studying in achieving educational target. When other top highschool was preparing for domination, our highschool was teaching their students equally. When other top highschool teachers was being intelectual arrogant (no offends), our highschool teachers were teaching briefly and patiently to make sure every students understand what the subject tells, although some teacher thaught, still not with pretty good quality. That was what popped in my mind that create my motivation to work hard in school.

In the other hand, I was also excited in doing non academic things in high school. I made my first blog, brokenplectrum.blogspot.com who was in "definite hiatus" (which is to much "following the market" and the username & password was gone) which told a lot of stories of my highschool years. I made pretty serious and ambitious blog at that time. No wonder that my uncle who was following my blog, told me that my writting was older than my age. :)

I joined pretty much extracurriculars from KIR (Karya Ilmiah Remaja), Band extracurricullar (which was failed to regenerate at the 2nd year), Rohis (Rohani Islam). I also joined MK (Mitra Kerja) OSIS, and MPK. I volunteraly be school documentation (formaly and informaly). That's why I got pretty much collections of photographs of my highschools activities that be my source of energy too! :)

The most special and precious things in high school was, a community based on classmates named "Onimusha" that was develop in my 1st high school year. This community, later on, be some kind of symbol of unity that grows to various levels of actions and results.

Onimusha Basecamps was developed in almost every houses of everyone in the community. Adit's house (dominantly), Yoga's house, and my house, was used to share knowledges of music, films, or just to hang out and play. This was my first 'discussion group' that explore many kinds of new things.

Onimusha House Production which is placed in my house, was produced masterpieces such as video editing tasks that results gaining more score, recording & mixing, also used to finish tasks and do amateur music recordings, and mp3 and music videos compilation share to gain friendship. :)

Highschool was a very unique experience, and definitely not the same as being a college student. It was more unite and tolerant. No wonder that it was more like being a melting pot of life.

Well, time has reach more than 1 o'clock in the morning. I have to go to sleep to prepare going to Jakarta at 8 o'clock tommorow. I home I won't late.

After doing national election on Wednesday, apparently today is time for the election of President of ITB. TPS (the place to vote) are placed in every faculty in ITB to reach every voters to vote their choosen candidate.

There are three couples of candidates to be choose which are 1st Yunus-Ridwan, 2nd Ucup-Benny, and 3rd Ilham-(I forgot the name...).

I hope that the choosen president of ITB could run what they've promised in campaign and bring better ITB to be more open to everyone. Personally, I hope SBM could be more exist in ITB and APRES could also be supported more by ITB.

I've been blessed that I actually enters the best company that learns me much important things to develop leadership. I've just finished attending Bang! Company's meeting that discussed about our strategy in achieveing the last 22 days potential profit.

Julian Kamil, CEO of Bang! Company, is really skilled in protecting the flow of the meeting without sacrificing the focus and target of the meeting itself. It also supported by the supportiveness from Bang! members itself in achieving the company's target, which being the best company among other 3 IBE companies.

Here's keynotes (edited and translated) that I can share to you. I hope it could be useful to us:

1. "I want we to unite and have the same mindset."
2. Leader is a decision maker from members' aspiration. In the other hand, the members itself must be commit and supportive.
3. Leaders must have an effort to understand each members and yet, be objective and fair. Eg. "I understand what you say, but ... (straighnen our target)."
4. "I believe, when have our own ability and potential".
5. What we need is target and commitment, not only just a strategy. "
6. "What we achieve is what we are."
7. Staffing and job desk should work well and responsible.

Today's exploration day! (Digging Tom Delonge's inspiration and influence in creating conceptual AVA albums!)

Started by jogging in Sabuga, 10 o'clock in the morning for 7 lap, I went home and starting to open my laptop. Started by watching 2001: A Space Odyssey, that I got from my friend, and exploring its story and plot from Wikipedia. That is a very conceptual and grandiose movie, but in the other hand, it also has an "abstract" story, so I have to explore the plot again in Wikipedia after I watch the movie. :)

FYI, this is the movie that highly influence Tom Delonge in concepting Angels and Airwaves. He quoted in an interview with Larry King for AVA's first album release.

Next is about exploring other movies that could apparently influence Tom Delonge in creating conceptually Angels and Airwaves albums. Tom is often issuing about space, and science fiction as the concept, so I tried to explore movies that related to the segment. Apparently movies like Star Wars & ET gives pretty big inspiration to AVA. You can see the list of movies about outer space here. Seeing that Tom has a hobby of watching movies, no wonder that all of his song themes whether in Blink 182 or in AVA, often related to movie themes.

In the evening, I started to explore... my own Facebook. :) replying friends wall, chatting, sending birthday greet, etc. Well, Facebook has changed many people life today to spend most of his time in 2 dimensional screen.

Went to Karapitan fish center

Suddenly, Misykat calls that he wanted to go to Jl. Karapitan to search for fish and aquarium. Few days before, Misykat wanted an aquarium in his room and I told that there is a place to find display fish in Jl. Karapitan. So, we went there after Dzuhur pray.

We found various fishes from the variety who lives in plain water to sea water. Misykat wanted a "Nemo" fish, just like in the movie "Finding Nemo", a sea water fish. Luckily, we found that variety in a shop, that serves sea water fish. The fish was priced Rp35000 each.

Fishes are sell in various prices from Rp2.000-Rp750.000 each (as I saw). Actually the fish that is sell in Rp750.000 is actually a small sized fish, which is a red tail Arwana fish. It's only +-10cm length and it's has been sold to a person.

I also found a beautiful Cupang fish, which cost only Rp5000 each. I suddenly interested to buy it, but Misykat told me that he would postpone to buy the aquarium, so I decided to postpone also.

I heard that if we had a pet, it could be a stress release. So, I suddenly interested to have a fish in my boarding room. But, I think I have to save money first. :)

Before that, Happy Birthday Rishad! You celebrate the birthday, I got the present! :) Well, this review is for you Shad!

The review

Comparing to their mini debut album “Stories Of Our High School Years”, “The Sophomore” just start to get the shape of Peskins own synth-punk music. But the sound of Rocket Rockers & Fall Out Boy still labeled in my mind when I enjoy the album. The long title of each song is really Fall Out Boy’s and certain melodies and sounds are Rocket Rockers’ alike. But the thing is, this album, and the existence of Peskins today would be like the next Rocket Rockers phenomenon in early 2000’s Indonesian independent music scene. It’s more obvious that Dochi (Peskins songwriter/vocalist/guitarist) and Ucay (Rocket Rockers vocalist) made a song together titled “Berdiri Terinjak” that exist in both of Peskins album, but added more feature in this new album (It’s just like Rocket Rockers “Tergila” which appears on their first debut and second “major” album with add more feature, right?).

The songs in the album would be fit with teenage energy, layered with romantic-hedonic-“killing” lyrics. The message of each song is really explicitly-implicit, so we would still be easy to understand. I didn’t like the hedonic one like in the verse of “The Sophomore” song, but Dochi could arrange the song really catchy, so it would appears for sing-a-long. Arrangements of the songs in the album could be defined as “something new” but I think it reached “too much” in some songs, that if it simplified a little bit, it would create a masterpiece. The vocal technique should be developed more in the next album, because in this album, Sansan and Dochi seems to be out-of-breath in singing the songs (do sport everyday Dochi, and stop smoking Sansan!).

Overall, Peskins has color local pop-punk music to create “something new” that could really absorb teenage mind to fall in to their music. I surely amazed with their management that has made them reached more than 1.000.000 visitors of their MySpace page (I think, it’s the first Indonesian band who reach that number on MySpace).

Sell sandwich!

Yesterday, I tried to develop my entrepreneurial skill actually from my friend's business (hehehe...). Well, two days ago I found out that Ai, APRES 2005 was making sandwiches for sale in her faculty which is Architecture Faculty ITB. The purpose is to get the Jason Mraz ticket in Java Jazz 2009. So, after I tasted it and actually delicious, I decided to help her to sell her home made sandwiches on SBM-ITB.

Apparently, yesterday morning, the test market were shown pretty big interest. 11 sandwiches were sold in a glimpse, just after the end of the auditorium of Business Law class! Alhamdulillah, this shown a pretty good result. I hope it shows better result tomorrow.

Rockepreneur 1st Anniversary!

February 1st is the birthday of Rockepreneur! It counted since the first post I wrote.

I'm so glad that I could present articles of my life and some about somebody. I personally learn a lot of new things in my journey that runs this full year in SBM-ITB and APRES ITB. Pictures and videos are uploaded to present the situation and condition about the experience of my life. 148 full-passionate posts has been published and present my life in a year.

The idea

This blog has start to change my life to appreciate more about life and literature to bless everyday life that everyone should have never experience the same. The idea if this blog is to "communicate the way I see the world" that is appears in writing. So, despite the bad grammar of my writing (my apology), I'm trying to share, tell, and speak up my mind through this blog.

Target

Next, my target is to publish minimum 3 quality posts in a week. So, I have target minimum to publish 144 quality posts in a year. I also want this blog to be more interactive to the readers by . The most important point is to be honest in developing each posts.

Vision

I hope Rockepreneur could establish more as a to be a role-model Indonesian blog that publish everyday life in English. :)

Long journey to Royal Jakarta Golf Course

SBM ITB Golf Tournament 2009 - Official Video

Yesterday, Himpunan SBM-ITB (SBM-ITB Community) held SBM ITB Golf Tournament 2009 on Royal Jakarta Golf Course. I personally not a committee on this event, but the thing that made me attends was to take Bang!’s receipt that was brought by the marketing of Bang! Company to the event. It’s to finished my Bee Carpet transaction that was ordered by my grandmother.

Well, the story was that, I depart from home in 8.30 AM, and went back home at 15.00! So it was a six and a half hour trip, just to take the receipt from Bang! Company’s stand at Royal Jakarta Golf. FYI, that’s was the first time I went to that golf course without knowing the address before. So, I went lost to various places that I haven’t visited in my life!

First, I take the highway to Cawang, and went out near Cililitan. But I went to a wrong way that almost leads me to Grogol. But I got to Dewi Sartika road to go to Halim Airport. After got unnoticed and went lost several times, I finally notice that the golf course was not on Halim’s Airport. My cell phone was out of battery and I just kept trying to come to the golf course. I went to Pondok Gede road for 3 times and lost in a house street once. Finally I arrived at the golf course at 12.30. :)

I just notice that only max. 3 persons who are able to standby at the stand, so my arrival was a kind of “unwanted”. I saw the committee wears dark blue polo shirt and Ines, Sandy, and Nigor on Bang!’s stand. I straightly wrote out the receipt for the carpet and just went back home. FYI, Royal Jakarta Golf Course was fascinating. We have to pass the golf course to arrive at the golf office. So, we saw the “paradise” of the golf course on the way to the office.

I went back and straightly enter the highway. I just went direct to TMII (because I remember that we went to that way to arrive home). Without notice, I, again, went to Pondok Gede (so it was the 4th time) :). Looking to the time, I haven’t pray Dzuhur yet, so I decided to stop at At-Tin Mosque at TMII. That’s a mosque that is built by Mrs. Tin, the wife of the 2nd president of Indonesia, Soeharto. It has a fancy escalator in the mosque with ceramic surface of the floor.

I went back to the highway to Ceger (because my dad once said that if you enter from Ceger you will find the highway to home) and I was amazed that I entered the highway to Bandung! I should have gone backward. So, I was searching for the way out to send me back to Jakarta. :)

Long journey to home

Finally I arrived home at 15.00 with a bump on the right front of the car. Well, I “scratch” the car on the “path” of Pangkalan Jati (the road that is usually passed when I was in high school to go home) as the size of a car. I apologize to my mom about what I did to her office’s Avanza, but she said OK after I told my “journey” of 6 hours and a half to get the piece of receipt. It also has been covered by insurance.

Thank Allah SWT, I’m home now!

This morning, I met with Dimas from Local Drug Store at APRES ITB to discuss about Diklat/Clinic Chiptune Music that will be held in February 12th 2009. Dimas will be the tutor for this Diklat/Clinic to introduce and share about his experience about 8-bit Chiptune Music at APRES ITB. This will be the first time APRES Diklat/Clinic invites tutor from outside of ITB.

I hope this diklat/clinic could be useful to introduce the 8-bit Chiptune music to ITB.

Trip to Jogjakarta - Semarang part 2

Going to Semarang

We directly went to Semarang after visited Popeye. We used the Boyolali way, but actually the road doesn’t really good, so I and my father couldn’t asleep on the road. At that time, my father has only asleep for 3 hours, because before he arrived in Jogjakarta, he was directly went from Bali for his work.

Arrived at Semarang, we went straight to Santika Hotel on Jl. Panandaran near Simpang Lima (one of the most famous place to be visited in Semarang) to check in. I wrote “Trip to Jogjakarta – Semarang part 1” as soon as I arrived at room 505. Seeing that I have limited apparel, so I decided to “dry” my apparels that I already used by hotel hairdryer on the bath room. :)

Went to the cemetery

I received an SMS from my mom to join the group of families that visits Eyang Satmoko and Eyang Retnosriningsih cemetery at Bergota. My mom has been arrived in Semarang from the morning. So, to avoid lateness, I went there by taxi.

As I arrived there, the group has almost finished reading Surat Yaasiin, so I directly join to read it from the beginning. As I read the Surat Yaasiin, everyone on the cemetery site dropped flowers to show respect for my grandfather and grandmother. After I finished, it’s time for me to drop flowers.

After we finished, as we went to the car, we usually spread fortune by giving money to the people around the cemetery. Tips: Break your money first into small quarter, so you could spread it efficiently. I didn’t join the group back to Kelud Raya (my grandfather and grandmother’s house), but I went back to the hotel with my mom.

I and my mom went back to Kelud in 7 o’clock to do the tahlilan of the 100 day of Eyang Retnosriningsih remembrance by also inviting orphans from Muslim foundation. We read Surat Yaasiin, continued with saying 100 name of Allah SWT. Hey, this is what make difference between the traditional Arabic style of saying those name in sorrow, but here we say it with full of joy and added Javanese accent! I love it! It kind of mix between deep and joy, but we say it with full of spirit. No wonder that many orphan kids said it out loud. I think this would say that being a Muslims is a fun thing. :)

After finished doing tahlilan, we had dinner together with families. After that, my mom with her brother and sisters were discussing about the future of Kelud house and the other inheritance of my grandfather and grandmother.

I with my father decided to go back to the hotel to take rest, because in the morning, I would travel Semarang with my high school friends! :)

I woke up in 5.15 in the morning to change the schedule to meet Romi, Dini, Lukman and I on Simpang Lima to do breakfast in the hotel on 7 o’clock in the morning. So I didn’t sleep after that, and I still wear the same apparel as yesterday. :)

Hey, when we were enjoying the site, 3 people came to us and sell us GSM cards. Actually, they are 3 Public High School Semarang students who had sponsors to sell the product to the public. I said to them that two of my cousins study there and, they were amazed and said that they had permit to attend the tahlilan yesterday.

After we say Lawang Sewu opened, we directly went there to one of the most famous site in Semarang, which is a building that known has 1000 doors. We have to pay Rp5000/person to enter the building.

We noted that this building has the age of almost 200 years since the Dutch conquer Indonesia. After Indonesia has freed from the conqueror, the building is used as the office of Indonesian Train Corporation. Now, the building is most famous to use as the tourist site to be visited.

I didn’t notice at all that this building has a “secret tour” inside it. I only noticed from people that this building has a secret link to many important sites in Semarang, include the governor office of Semarang, 3 Public High School, one of famous store in Semarang, and many else. Actually, there is a tour that shows us the link to those sites, which is The Lawang Sewu Underground Tour. At glance, we wouldn’t notice that there’s a tour like this, because it doesn’t shown on the front gate at all. But, after we arrived in a corner of the building, we would find several persons that serve the tour. We have to pay Rp20.000 for the guide and Rp6.000 for renting the rubber boots.

We entered a small spiral stair to a blackout path under the building. Before that we have to put on rubber boots because we’re about to enter a path that actually filled with swallow water. Actually, the path is used as the cooler of the building that has to be full of water. We walked along the path with only using 3 small spotlights of 7 people, and many stories that are told by the guide about of the used of the path on the Dutch and Japanese conqueror. Most of the rooms on the path are used as the “duck prison” (where the prisoner has to duck on the low height of the trellis, and being filled by water to the neck), ordinary prison, and place for assassination. Once the path is used as “Uji Nyali” TV show (TV show that challenge people to stay in eerie places) to challenge the people.

The guide also said not to read Ayat Kursi (The verse that is usually used for Muslim to exorcise), because it will challenge the soul that lives there. So we only allowed saying the name of God if we’re afraid. We enter a path that usually came up a form of a woman using white dress and long hair. That’s the path that was used by “Uji Nyali”. Then, we found out a place that is used for assassination and to dry blood before the corpse were thrown away to the river besides the building. There is a camouflage way to throw the corps from the path to the lake from a steel door size 1x1m.

Yes, we were shown the secret path to the sites of Semarang, but actually it only as big as o.5m2. It’s not a path that people normally could go through, but actually it’s a medium pipeline to supply water. All of them have been closed by cement by the government to prevent any insecurity of people who tried to enter those pipelines.

At the end, we went to the path where there are some pipelines and we sat on it waiting for the “appearances of something”. The guide told us to turn off the spotlights so there’s no light at all on the path. The guide told us to look at the next path and seeing the “zig-zag” light that appears there but I preferred to avoid it because I have no interest in “seeing that kind of thing”. :) Finally went back to the small spiral stair (I think that’s the only enter and exit door to the underground path).

Woofhh… Finally we went back to reality. :) FYI: When we were in the path and the spotlights are being turned off, the girl besides Lukman grabbed his hand very tightly, and Lukman just express his story when the girl (with her boyfriend, I think) still behind him without notice! Hehehe…

Went to Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) in Tembalang

Our next destination was going to Diponegoro University (Undip) Tembalang, but Dini and Romi has made their own promise with other people, so only me and Lukman who went to Undip Tembalang. Undip Tembalang is placed on the south side of Semarang and it is the campus of most of Undip’s technical faculty. I went there by Lukman’s New Honda Tiger motorcycle.

The ride for about 20 minutes and we first arrived on Undip Technical Industry Faculty, where Lukman studied. I was being introduced to his friends on the Himpunan Teknik Industri (Technical Industry Student Community) and made a photo with them. I went to the backyard of the building and also made photo shoots there.

At glance, the environment of Undip has the character of mixed between University of Indonesia (UI) on Depok and Padjajaran University (Unpad) on Jatinangor, both on West Java. It has more various faculties and wide region like UI, but it also has hill landscape like Unpad. No wonder that most of the students used private motorcycle as their campus transportation.

The time has shown almost 12 o’clock in the afternoon and we decided to have lunch on the place where Unpad students usually bought their meal. The place is called “Warung Makan Amole”. It’s clean and it’s a buffet type of restaurant that serves homemade catering.

The last destination was going to Lukman’s boarding house. It’s a 2x3m2 room with only cost Rp230.000/month of rent. The room was filled with posters from Barclays’ soccer teams from Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, etc. He also collects his “trophy” of his name tags that he involved as committee on his campus activities. I prayed Dzuhur there and went back to Kelud, Semarang.

Before that, we went to Deka’s house, Lukman’s friend and “Ketua Angkatan Teknik Industri Undip 2007”, to use his ride to Kelud. Deka and Lukman wanted to do study together with their other friends in Semarang. FYI, Deka is actually Taruna Nusantara (Tarnus) Highschool graduate, so on the road, we just talk about his experience at Tarnus, and his friends that study in SBM-ITB and ITB in general. I got his phone number and directly send to my Tarnus graduated friends at ITB by SMS to keep on contact with him, because actually Deka is the only Tarnus graduate students of 2007 that enters Undip.

Finally, after I arrived at Kelud, I said thank to Lukman for the whole day trip in Semarang and Deka for his ride. Waiting for Lumpia ordered for gift, I shared my trip story to my mom, my aunt, my uncle, and families that were still there. I went back to Jakarta with my mom using Garuda Indonesia at 15.00.

Trip to Jogjakarta – Semarang part 1

Hello guys, I’m at Semarang right now in Santika Hotel. I’m here with my dad who was deciding to take vacation after several busy weeks that my father and I actually held. I personally has been at home this whole week to take my “a week on – a week off holiday” because of the IBE. Hey, check out bangcompany.blogspot.com. That’s the blog that I also take care of right now.

Well, the trip started from 6.05 in the morning where I took a flight from Jakarta to Jogjakarta. I had a Garuda Economy Class seat from my father, and the plan is that, we would meet in Adisucipto Airport. My father is also coming from Bali, for his meeting, and than straight to Jogjakarta to meet me.

Well, the plan was actually staying in Jogja for 1 night and go to Semarang to attend the 100 year tahlilan (reminder ceremony) my grandmother, Eyang Retno Sriningsih, which you would find on my article of the last day of her, here. My mom did miss scheduled about the exact 100 day of my grandmother passed away, that actually held today, January 17th 2008. So, my trip in Jogjakarta only happens for few hours, then I straight going to Semarang. But, I made to visit some unique places in Jogjakarta.

First place is Batik Tirto Noto, Jogjakarta, where you would find original high quality Batik with not very expensive price in variety of designs from shirt, to the textile itself. It placed in the Keraton Jogjakarta state near the Keraton Palace (Istana Keraton) itself. We got this address from the rented car’s driver that my father hired on the airport.

Second place, we went to the Keraton Palace, where the Sultan Hamengkubuono X and his ancestors live for Keraton Kingdom since before and after the freedom of Indonesian Republic from “penjajahan” the Dutch. Here you would find the architecture of the palace with some of the part has been transferred into museum of Sultan Hamengkubuono VIII and IX.

The palace is guarded by people named Abdi Dalem, internal guardian of palace, which usually using blangkon (Javanese cap/hat), and fully using Javanese traditional apparel including batik. FYI, this Abdi Dalem people are only being paid very cheaply. They work there mostly because of the pride as being the Sultan’s servant.

Unique information that I got from my father about the Keraton Palace, is that:

1. Why Jogjakarta is being “Daerah Istimewa Jogjakarta”, rather than just Jogjakarta in Indonesian region. The fact is because, when Ir. Soekarno (1st Indonesian President) proclaimed the Indonesian freedom over the Dutch conquer, the first side in Indonesian region that approve the proclamation is Sultan Hamengkubuono IX, the head of Keraton Kingdom at that time. The approval is being made a “prasasti” (written stone), signed the Sultan in August 18th 1945, straight 1 day after the proclamation.

2. Why the Palace is only document majority of Sultan Hamengkubuono IX and some of VIII artifacts? It’s because actually Sultan Hamengkubuono I to VII are still be allied with Dutch conquer, and Indonesia still haven’t been existed yet.

3. About the treatment, narcissly, my father said that, the Palace’s museum is less treated than Museum Soesilo Soedarman. :)

Third place we visited Popeye Compact Disc & Music Cassette. Our driver said that this is the most stocked music store in Jogjakarta. Inside there, I would find the division of 60%-40% division of cassettes-CD. It’s not a secondhand music store, but actually it has been existed since 1992. You would find from the old to most up to date record releases from indie to major label all over Indonesia. Hey, I still found Pure Saturday – Elora CD here! (But I’ve already got it, with fully signed by the members on the “Kosong” clip shoot, here)

We could see the real condition of our music in the real life, which is now full of piracy and prohibited duplicates. Salt water for you flu

That’s the quote of the day from my mom that recommends me to cure my flu with salt water rather than using Decolgent or other flu tablets. For you information, my mom got this information when she was traveling to Palembang for her business, and one moment, she was being ride to a place by a driver from my father. At that moment, my mom was in a big flu, and suddenly the driver told her that he was never got caught on flu since 20 years ago until now. He told the secret that he always do the “nose cleaning” by using salt water.

How to

The salt water was carefully inhaled (not fully inhaled, but only reached the bridge between the nose and lung) and than being exhaled immediately. It will clear up the nose with all the bacteria and viruses straightly without any side effect.

Happy new year 2009!

Alhamdulillah. At this whole year, I feel glad that I could finished a lot of activities that I've done. This Rockepreneur has recap this whole year of my activities. Not all but, at least, I have the written of history if my life on 2008.

So shame that I postpone a lot of posts in Rockepreneur because apparently, almost all of my friends has now active in Facebook. So I often update my Facebook than Rockepreneur nowadays. But I always trying to balance updating all of my accounts in internet, started with my email, Facebook, Blogger, Friendster, and MySpace, but somtim, I hav my other business that I prior most which is studying in SBM-ITB. I have the target to be able to graduate on time. That's my first priority before updating my internet accounts.

New year at Eyang Soesilo's house

As usual, many invitations came to me to join the new year celebration. Like it came from APRES ITB. Aryo invited me to join the "hura-hura tahun baru" at his house with other APRES kids in Bandung. But I prefer celebrating new year with my family. I've been staying at my dorm room (kos-kosan) for about the first week of holiday because of running the mandate of being the Operation PIC in Zentech vendor for IBE purposes (Bang Company). Well, seems like I bored with the silence, waiting for the order for the whole week in front of my computer connected in the internet, which apparently no order came at all at that week. So I prefer to go back home to Jakarta after I finished the whole week at my dorm room. (well, some of the time I used to update my Facebook. :))

Finally, in the early evening, for about 17.00, I still standby in my house alone, waiting for my brother, my sister, my father & my mother went back home to go together celebrating new year. Well apparently, there are 2 invitations came to our family to attend new year with Eyang Putri at Panglima Polim and together with my uncles, aunt, and nephews at Tante Ani's house at Kertanegara. Well, I just follow that my father wanted to go.

So, we decided to go to Eyang Putri house at Panglima Polim house first. We arrived there at about 22.30 after waiting each members of our family gathered. I met Bude De, Pakde Imam, Om Hengki, Tante Ella, Purwa, Bima, Om Ruby, Tante Rina, Indra, Hamdi and Eyang Putri. Om Hengki decided to create a steak barbecue on the backyard of the house, but actually, because we came late, at that time, it only several meats left. So, we just can grilled those several meats for our new year celebration only. :)

Om Hengky then present his home made video of short biography of my mother, Nining I Soesilo! Well, the other said that everyone in the room has watch the video, but apparently, I haven't, so I pretty amazed with it. Wow, there are the pictures of my mom when she is in Marching Band Waditra Ganesha (MBWG) ITB! That's was a quite interesting video for me. Then Om Hengki played the other video about Eyang Putri Widaningsri, and my great grandfather Eyang Muhammad. I pretty amazed with Eyang Muhammad video because Om Hengki actually create the video with added scenes of Arsip Nasional (national video achive) and some war movies that relate about my great grandfather. Well, my great grandfather was one of national freedom struggle patriot in Surabaya. Started with the incident of the dead of Brigade General Mallaby near Jembatan Merah (Red Bridge) in October 1945. He leads he TKR (Tentara Keamanan Rakyat) in Surabaya and has a huge part in struggling the nation part in November 10th 1945 , which now known as Hari Pahlawan (Patriot Day).

After finished eating the steak, close to the h-hour of new year, we decided to go to Tane Ani house, but actually Eyang Putri wanted us to see her music performance from her Electone until the h-hour. Finally, without any fireworks prepared, we celebrate the h-hour of new year by seeing the neighbor's fireworks that they have prepared from the backyard of the house. :) We also saw Fauzi Bowo, the governeor of DKI Jakarta celebrate the new year in Pantai Karnaval Ancol (Ancol Carnaval Beach) that is broadcast live on RCTI. It was lame that the governor of DKI Jakarta only greet the new year by saying "Happy New Year!" only without added another wise words that the society could received. Not like Made Mangkupastika, the governor of Bali that has celebrated the new year 1 hour earlier that siade some wise message to the society with added good hopes for the next year with all the staff. But actually, we still celebrate the new year with fun by our togetherness.

Went to Kertanegara

Straightly after new year, we went to Tante Ani house at Kertanegara to meet the other extended family from my mother. We still met Om Toni, On Nunung, Tante Ita, Tante Ati, and Lukman, but apparently Pakde Agus, Bude Anik, and Imam has went back home. We meet and greet with them and just be able to interact in few minutes because my father wanted us to went back home early. But fortunately, we still be able to met Pakde Agus with the whole family because Imam left his cell phone on te house, that made the whole family should went back to the house to pick up the cell phone. We arrived home at about 01.30 and I still delayed my sleep by listening to Science in Music: Siaga Bencana album compilation that I got from the newest Hai Magazine. :)

Well, I hope in this new year I would do the best in SBM-ITB and be more focus there. In the other hand, if I had trust from Allah SWT to still be active in APRES ITB, I hope I could run it the best I can, but if it not, please make it far away from me to be able to be more focus in my college. I hope I could make the best decision of myself.

Drama movies = heart feelings & jealousy

Watching movies, especially drama always make me jealous. Yes, it’s true. I think it happens since I was in school until now. Drama or romance movies I think, too much showing “arrogant of romance” that it always being “so fascinating”. It’s very dangerous to be because; it would easily change my perception that “loves always like that”. Moreover is a very deep romance or drama movie, it can easily absorb my soul to follow the movie.

The effect would occur after I finished watching movies. I would feel too melancholic when I see or interact with people. I always feel gloomy after I watch the movies. I also have in mind that, what happens in the movies are actually representing the society (real world), which is absolutely wrong. I would think that I should “deserve” the scenes that happen in the movie in the real world, which sometime made me, had a guilty feelings or heart feelings if it doesn’t happen to me. But in the same way, I couldn’t “control” the people to act like I watch in the movie.

It also affect my mindset to think only "one step", and not thinking the future. Drama movie always shows the "ideal" scenes that happens about the story, and didn't shows the process to make the "ideal" scenes happens. Also, drama movies present only a short story of an event, which is very different with the long and continuous events of the real world. But in the other hand, I personally stunned by them, that would affect, again, to jealousy and heart feelings if it doesn't happen to me. Seems like my like my life are only plotted for 2 hours.

So, I think I should stop my imagination to apply the “synopsis of the movie” in the real life, and not really absorbing the “chemistry” of drama movie to not make me jealous and had a guilty and heart feelings.

PS: I’ve just watch Twilight and it “hurts”.

Bought a Dochi eyeglasses!

After finishing Shalat Jumat at Batan, I straightly went to "pasar kaget" in front of Masjid Salman. Apparently, Masjid Salman still havent finished the Shalat Jumat yet, so I got the "pasar kaget" still not crowded yet. I searched for socks to replace mine that some of it has created holes. Then, I suddenly looked out to the eyeglasses section. I found the glasses that is very popular wear by a lot of teenagers, which is RayBan Wayfarer glasses.

This glasses is popularly wear by Dochi Sadega of Pee Wee Gaskins. I bought the glasses for Rp20.000.

Together like ants

I went out to do the Shalat Jumat in the afternoon, and I did it as usual. The khotbah (the speech about Islamic and life issues, with added Al-Quran and Al-Hadist) talked about the one of Al-Quran surat, which describe that, "speaking good things is like a tree which the roots are soared into the ground."

After listening to the khotbah and did the shalat, I felt very tired and decided to lay down a little while in the mosque after the crowds has went out. I read some mosque newspapers for a while which talked about the winning of Obama and the influence to Muslim in general in the future. I laid down for several minutes and suddenly it started raining heavily outside. So, I was accidentally trapped in the mosque alone with some people who seems like the members of the mosque.

Saw the ants migrate

As it raining heavily, I couldn't go back to the campus, and I decided to wait in the front of the BATAN Mosque. As I wait, I looked at the ground that actually, there are a group of ants who migrate their home to another places. I saw it carefully, and it looked like they brought their logistics and eggs outside a hole and going back inside to another hole. It inspired me about something that stuck in my head.

The ants reminded me about one of Javanese myth that I recognize of my mom, that if there are a lot of ants live on the ground of our place, it shows a wealthy and prosperous place and/or owner. At least that's what I know. That's why many Javanese interested to The sign of migrating truly shows that the mosque actually is very useful to the others. Well, no wonder that it always being full of people in Friday as people do the Shalat Jumat, or the other day which being used by the people to do Shalat Fardhu (shalat 5 times a day).

Second of it, the aggressive migrating by ants to bring their logistics and eggs to somewhere else, truly represent togetherness. From those crowded ants, I didn't see any ants who brought more than one egg/logistic on each ant. Every ant bought one egg/logistic to be brought to another place. They all work together to accomplish one target, which is migrating.

Sometime if we couldn't accomplish some tasks or some problems, if we pray to god, we would sometime get the answer which sometime unrelated directly. I apparently felt stuck about time management between my activities in SBM-ITB and APRES ITB. I think the ants showed me the way to solve it with some work group...

I feel like I was in high school

I had a task to spread 5 questionnaires about Marketing task about Pawon Pitoe Restaurant at BIP. Ikhsan Mansyur, as the head division of this project gave me this task about 1 week ago, but I just have tome to accomplish it today. Beside only the questionnaire, I should also have to take the person's photo to fulfill the appendix of the report. So I went to BIP and start spreading the questionnaire alone!

Arrived in BIP

As I arrived on BIP, I just started my objective to eat first at the food court and spread the questionnaires there. But actually, as I finished ordering my Donar Kebab, I realized that I actually don't have any pen for people to fill in the blanks. :) So, I decided to finished my dinner first and went to Gunung Agung to bought pens for writing. I bought 4 for 2 JIMNIE pen for it. As I finished buying the pen, in front of Gunung Agung, I met Kesa with his friends. Kesa is my class mate who come from minor class of Civil Engineering 2006 who take Marketing and Finance class in SBM-ITB. They decided to eat at the food court and I decided to join them to accompany the questionnaire filling.

Filling the questionnaire

My first target is a person who sit on a table behind me. There are 2 persons who seems like have been adult and having occupation. They wears apparels who looked like a worker for the government. But after I realized, they were actually college students like me. :)

"Saya foto ya mas, buat tanda bukti."
"Oo, silahkan, silahkan."

Oh ya, actually, Ikhsan told me to target the respondents who have the occupation of workers and not students. So, this time, I have to search for more correct respondents. After some moment, I founded 2 persons who finished eating their meal who seems like they have been adult. So, I gave 2 questionnaires to both of them. Actually, I just amazed that both of them are lecturers from UNPAD (Universitas Padjajaran) who are in charge of postgraduate students. :) So, they fill out the questionnaires with added quotes and "free" lecture about the questionnaire and the report.

"Kamu nanti ngitung pake apa? SPSS?"
"Nggak pak, kita masih pake Excel"
"Ooo, kalau pake SPSS bisa lebih detail. Dari sana kamu harus bisa analisa angkanya. Banyak mahasiswa saya yang nggak ngerti mendeskripsikan angka2nya. Biasanya dosen ngeliatnya begitu, tinggal dari angka2nya aja, terus diuji apakah mahasiswanya kompeten atau tidak. Kalau nyebar gini, terus pake foto gini yaa.. boleh lah, tapi paling ngisinya suka kurang akurat."
"Iya pak."

"Saya dulu juga minta biro nyebar questionernya. Saya minta nyebarin 100, tapi yang balik juga cuma 25."
"Ooo, gitu ya pak."
"Iya, makanya, yang penting kamu bisa mendeskripsikan angka2nya, artinya apa."

With some added value in my head about the report, I thank both of them tho have filled out the questionnaire.

Went to a fashion store in BIP

I decided to join Kesa and his friends to spent some time in the mall. One of his friends has a long metal hair, and went to a fashion hobby store to bought an Avenged Sevenfold t-shirt. The other friend went to a shoe store to buy a pair of sneakers.

"Wah, besok sipil ada acara ya."
"Nggak kok, cuma nemenin belanja2 aja. Gw mah nabung dulu. Nunggu suntikan dana dulu. Kemarin ada tugas kampus nyelesaiin peta, harus ngeprint sampe lebih dari Rp300.000." Kesa answered.
"Oh ya?"

Later on, we went home after the clock ticks on 21.30. We seperate in the parking lot and went home.

The memory

The walk to the shoe store and the hobby fashion store trully reminds me about my high school memory. I remember when I bought the Peavy practice guitar amp in Mangga Dua, Jakarta. Me and my friends are actually doesn't have a habit to spent money in buying stuff, so this time, I decided to do research first about what amp is needed and reachable for me.

So, we went to Mangga Dua by busway, and we used angkot to reach the Harco Mangga Dua. There we found the destination that we have already search on the internet. I bought 1 practice amp and 2 jack for instruments. As I brought the practice amp back to home, I remembered that me and my friends entered an angkot that are full of people inside, and it was in a heavy traffic jam. I remembered the angkot entered the reverse gear and decided to enter the counter way of the road to be able to come back to its pool first, and to avoid traffic jam.

I sat in the most inside and back seat where I couldn't go outside angkot without people besides me went out first, or even move from my seat, and at the reverse gear, I was being noticed by the angkot's driver that I actually closed up his vision to the mirror to the back to see, if it's car passing or not. With grabbing, my guitar amp inside a tight space of the angkot, fy face just facing the counter way of the road, and praying that there are actually no car passing the road while the angkot entering its pool.

It was a great memory of going out to the market with friends, and the moment with Kesa and his friends at BIP is a bit reminding about those memorable time in college.

Mustang preparation, Diko’s birthday surprise and Quick Fix practice

Mustang preparation

At the end of the class, I went to Sekre APRES as usual. Actaully, there was a meeting of Mustang Inbox that would be held in November 7th 2008. Adit, the chief, created the meeting to prepare for all the aspects that are needed in the event. As head of the logistic section, Achiem was doing the plan for the logistic. As a person who has been covering the logistic of Mustang Oldies, I helped Achiem to create the architect of the stage with the logistic needs on it.

I gave some contacts of people that Achiem should have as the PIC for logistic. It’s for being able to cover all the things needed to run the event well. I told him not to forget to recheck the logistic that APRES already have (whether run smoothly or not). The meeting also included the event coordinator Rishad who gave me a mandate as Liaison Officer of 3 artists in the event.

Surprising Diko’s birthday

Diko is the head of Jargh Vhua-Vhua 2008 and he apparently had his 20th birthday on November 2th 2008. Soon after the meeting ended, Arum (Diko’s girlfriend) came to APRES brought 3 boxes of JCO Donuts. She said those would be brought to Sabuga, since Diko practice basketball with his friend. But actually, it was raining, and the practice was canceled. So Arum decided to bring the donuts to APRES, and share it for free :), but with a purpose to join her to surprise Diko at his boarding house. So, after enjoying the JCO, still raining, we decided to go to Diko’s boarding house in Tubagus Ismail.

We went together with Rishad, Adit, Fay, Mahar, Dito, Arum, Wulan, and Aul to Diko’sboarding house bringing a blueberry cheesecake as a present that Arum bought before. It was an easy target to surprise Diko without being notice, because Diko’s room is actually in the second floor and we have the time to prepare the candles in the garage. In a humid weather of the rain, we entered together to the house and surprised him in front of his room!

Coming out from the room, Diko went to the living room to celebrate the birthday. He made a wish, and cut the cake into 14 to share with all of us and boarding frineds. Suddenly Kibar made a called that he already arrived to practice with Quick Fix at Sekre APRES, because it already 20.00 o'clock. I told Kibar to postpone the practice since it's already late, and still rainy, telling him about Diko's birthday. In the other hand, 2 of APRES amplifiers were still being fixed that should be ready yesterday. So, I told him to practice the songs by himself at home.

Keep practicing

After the call, I told Aul to postpone the practice, but actually, Aul said it’s ok to practice late. So we decided to go back to APRES to practice. After I give Rishad a ride to his friends’ boarding house, I went back to APRES and decided to practice with Quick Fix. Apparently Helmi has arrived at Sekre and prepared the keyboards. We decided to practice intensely "Terobsesi" from Rocket Rockers and clear Selamat Pagi Juwita from The Adams. Aul and I were focusing in practicing the bass line of Terobsesi. We ended the practice at 22.15 and went home immediately to avoid to be sick caused by the rainy season and the cold Bandung’s weather at night.

Quick Fix!

Yesterday, I decided to practice with Quick Fix, (my band with Kibar, Aul, and Helmi) to prepare for APRES Mustang Inbox performance on Friday, November 7th 2008 at Selasar Plano, ITB. Quick Fix are me as vocal/guitar, Aul in bass, Helmi in keyboards/synthesizer, and Kibar in drums. Mustang Inbox has the theme of performing Indonesian songs (or songs with Indonesian lyrics), so we decided to perform 3 songs which are The Adams - Selamat Pagi Juwita, Rocket Rockers - Terobsesi, and Pee Wee Gaskins – Berdiri Terinjak. I think it’s going to be cool, because we just like being the candidate that represent the youth by performing those songs. :)

I’ve booked the MThree Studio 2 at the road in front of Pertamina gas station in Jl. Dipatiukur at 8 o’clock for one hour for practicing so we have to set our time to start at that time. So, as usual, after class, I went straight to Sekre APRES to meet everybody. Fortunately, there are Helmi and Aul in Sekre, so we decided to practice acoustically in front of Sekre APRES. With keyboards borrowed by PMK (Perkumpulan Mahasiswa Kristen) just a few steps from Sekre APRES, and Echa’s and someone’s acoustic guitars, we practiced until it came to Maghrib.

After we pray Shalat Maghrib, Aul went home first because feeling not well, but we decided to meet again at MThree on time. I decided to eat dinner first before practice I and Helmi went to Pecel Lele in Balubur to have dinnwe. Helmi actually have very limited money to run his life in Bandung. Imagine, he only received Rp600.000 a month and he still decided to attemd a piano course for Rp200.000 a month. So he only could spent Rp13.000 a day (Rp400.000/30days) I imagine he only spents Rp4.000 each time he eats, and Rp1.000 for transportation. But he seems very excited to practice piano and he said he’s ok for only eating twice a day. I surely feel sorry about his condition and as a fact, he also has to share for renting studio for our practice. So, I decided to give Helmi a ride to his boarding house in Gg. Masjid, Plesiran

The boarding house actually can’t be reached by cars, and could only by a size of single 2 wheel cycle, but it seems the neighborhood is good. Helmi greet the land lady mother as a sign he is home. I entered in a 2x2 room that Helmi stays, and I suddenly felt very comfortable as I entered it. Inside the room, there is a sajadah (carpet to do Shalat) put on a soft puzzled carpet, a single bed, a small table, PC and it’s speaker without a monitor, a cupboard, mugs and cups, an electric stove, an a box of his logistic.

He boiled water on his electric stove to serve me a cup of hot tea.

He said, “In this rainy season, it’s the best to drink a cup of hot tea.”

While waiting for water to boiled, he decided to put his clean clothes first.

“Just a minute, I want to take my clothes first”.

We decided to prays Isha first before practicing the band. We went to a small path outside his room to a toilet and a place to wash clothes. We took the wudhu in a spigot near the place for drying the clothes. We only able to pray by turn because the room doesn't have enough space. Helmi, decided to pray first, while I’m sitting on the bed, waiting for my turn.

While I’m sitting, I found a magazine "Development" on his bookshelves. I read about it and actually it’s a magazine about the world in poverty. There are reviews about poverty in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and other places in India and Africa. In that magazine I found an article titled “no quick fix” about how to solve poverty in the area. Suddenly, it inspired me to name our band Quick Fix! :)

“Great magazine.” I said, after Helmi finished his Shalat.

“I didn’t know why they still sent that magazine came to me. The subscriber is the person who stays here before me, and it’s just keep coming.” Helmi answered.

After I did Shalat Isya, Helmi poured up the boiled water into a cup of tea and he mixed it with some sugar.

“This is for you.”

“Thanks!”

While drinking the tea, I asked Helmi’s opinion about the name.

“Look at this article.” I showed up the article to Helmi.

I closed the word “no” and asked, “What do you think about this name? Do you agree if our band called ‘Quick Fix’?”

“Yes, I agree!” Helmi answered with amazing.

We finished the tea and went straight to the studio.

The practice

Because Kibar didn’t know the studio yet, I said that cars couldn’t enter the studio, we decided to meet at Alfamart, Jl. Dipatiukur and took a walk to the studio from there. I and Helmi arrived at 19.50 and directly met Kibar near his Suzuki Swift. We went to the studio by foot and we arrived there a few minutes later. There was still no sign of Aul while waiting for our turn, we entered the studio. So we decided to practice without the bass guitar.

We focused on practicing Selamat Pagi Juwita from The Adams, knowing that the pattern is a bit tricky. (When I listen to the word “a bit tricky” I just remembered about my Finance lecturer that always said those words, and I didn’t know why everybody just make fun of it :)) We intensively practiced The Adams and focused to the detail, and after almost an hour, there is still no sign of Aul. So, I decided to make a call, and do you know what? He felt asleep at his house. :(

Practice @ Sekre APRES @ 8 o’clock in the evening

We booked the Sekre APRES for free practice as APRES members today at 20.00. Alhamdulillah, there were some significant progress since the first practice yesterday, and I hope next our performance would improve.

It’s your golden time

If you see Rockepreneur recently, I often post about my time at APRES ITB. Well, actually I just want to feel settled in different environment, met different and more various people beside SBM-ITB. APRES ITB is the only environment that I could express my interest and met other people who have the same interest as me, like music. I could chat with other friends form different faculty and ITB, and involved in the events that is being held by APRES or maybe other invitation from other people and places that related to music. It seems that everybody needs music there. :)

I always remind a quote from my guide lecture, Mr. Dedi Permadi always told us again and again in every lecture meeting per half semester.

“It’s your golden time! You only have 3 years to involve in ITB environment. Make good friends as much as you can and be part of them. Don’t just be in this small SBM-ITB building all the time. You would only meet the same people as usual.”

That’s why I choose APRES as my other environment in ITB than just SBM-ITB. I don’t know why, although there are a lot of events that sometime made me tired and spent much time, mind, and some money, I feel comfortable being part of them. I think APRES ITB is the only campus unit that ignores seniority. We could meet and greet other campus friends from all majors and level in ITB, and we'll just be friends together. There is no jealousy or hard feelings if we interact with people from different majors and levels in APRES ITB. We just have to respect them as younger persons.

If you see my track record in APRES ITB, I personally has been contribute in some of APRES’s events such as Mustang (Musik Petang), Dor-dor Tough, and recently Jargh Vhua Vhua and Diklat, as I contribute as the person in charge. Although sometime it spent much time, but actually it’s time for me to apply management “learning by doing”. I have to be able to manage my time in SBM-ITB, with the tight schedule of activities, side by side with events in APRES ITB. It’s just like how to release over informed management theories in SBM-ITB to events and activities in APRES ITB. So it’s like symbiotic mutualism! :)

I enjoy what I’m doing right now and I hope I could spread all the positivity by it.
